Job opportunity - Assistant or Associate Professor, Department of Health, Behaviour & Society, University of Kentucky
The University of Kentucky invites applications for an opening for a tenure-track/tenured position of Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Health, Behavior & Society within the College of Public Health to begin as early as Fall 2019. The position is specifically focused on teaching excellence as a part of the department’s educational mission.
The Department is multi-disciplinary with a focus on cultivating a next-generation workforce and building scientific evidence needed for developing community-based interventions, dissemination and implementation science, practice-based research, and health disparities research. The Department includes nine full-time primary faculty members with expertise in a variety of areas including health disparities, cancer, sexual health, rural health, women’s health, maternal and child health, decision making, social determinants of health, community food and nutrition, and mental health. Department faculty maintain a robust teaching agenda in the College’s academic programs, which include the Master of Public Health (MPH) and Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) degrees as well as other graduate and doctoral programs in the College.
The selected individual will teach and mentor undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and professional students primarily in the College, and others across the University as appropriate. The selected individual will also provide Department, College, and University service as appropriate. We seek an individual who can capitalize on the substantial scientific and educational expertise found within the Department and College along with numerous relevant academic centers on campus, including the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching, the Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives, the Center for Equality and Social Justice, the Center for Health Equity Transformation, and others. While the primary focus of this position is instruction, the successful candidate will also be prepared to develop an independent research program, either in pedagogy or in other areas complementary to existing Departmental foci.
Applicants should have a PhD or professional doctoral degree in a health or social science discipline relevant to public health and health, behavior and society. Successful candidates should have demonstrated ability in teaching, a commitment to interdisciplinary approaches to public health, and interpersonal skills in communicating with a wide variety of professionals within and outside the University.
