Job Description – Student Research Assistant
Project Title
Conducting an evaluation of pilot programs related to radon testing and mitigation
Background
Take Action on Radon (TAOR) is a national initiative, funded by Health Canada, to raise awareness and support action on radon exposure across Canada. The advisory team consists of CAREX Canada (co-led by SFU Health Sciences Associate Professor Anne-Marie Nicol), the Canadian Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (CARST), and the Canadian Cancer Society.
The research assistant will develop and execute an approach to evaluating these programs, in order to better understand the barriers and facilitators to uptake and behaviour change.
Project Status and Student Tasks
The Student Research Assistant will:
Conduct a literature review on existing radon testing and mitigation programs and relevant implementation science
The TAOR initiative has developed and implemented two pilot programs, one offering radon test kits to homeowners using a community model and another offering funds to support radon mitigation through radon professionals.
The Student Research Assistant will:
· theories and frameworks (e.g., theories of behaviour change)
· Develop an evaluation plan informed by the results of the literature review
· Apply for ethics approval to execute the evaluation plan
· Conduct interviews and surveys as per evaluation plan
· Transcribe and analyze the interview and survey results
· Summarize the results into a final report
Desired start date: September 2020
Hours: part-time (hours and location are flexible)
