STATUS:  One (1)-year, temporary full-time position with possibility of extension

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

LOCATION: BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE), Vancouver, BC. The team is currently working remotely, pending changes in the BC Public Health COVID-19 guidance.

JOB: Working with the Principal Investigator (Dr. Robert Hogg) and the research team, the Research Coordinator assists in the planning, development and implementation of research and research related activities for the Comparative Outcomes and Service Utilization Trends (COAST) Study.

ORGANIZATION:

The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS Centre with an innovative, low barrier approach to healthcare delivery in clinical practice and an integrated group of research concentrations in Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Trials, Population Health and Epidemiology, Health Economics and Professional Education Programs. A multidisciplinary team of clinicians including Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers and Peers and researchers including Health Economists, Epidemiologists, Clinical Researchers, Statisticians, Programmers, and Data Analysts work collaboratively to improve the health of British Columbians with HIV and communities facing socio-economic barriers in accessing healthcare.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Coordinates the development, implementation, and maintenance of research studies and projects working largely with clinical data sets; coordinates the preparation and submission of grant applications (e.g. CIHR, NIH, etc).

·         Contributes to the training and mentoring of other research staff (e.g., Research Assistants, Students).

·         Coordinates meetings among community, staff, research teams, and support staff.

·         Writes grant applications and develops academic manuscripts in collaboration with research team.

·         Develops abstracts, posters, and presentations.

·         Assists with various administrative tasks associated with the day-to-day operations of research studies and projects.

·         Manages and maintains approval from relevant Research Ethics Boards, as necessary.

·         Coordinates community engagement and knowledge translation activities, including management of the study website.

·         Prepares, edits and distributes regular study status and other management reports.

·         Performs other duties as required.

·         Assists with various administrative tasks associated with the day-to-day operations of research studies and projects.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training and Experience
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in Epidemiology, Health sciences, Health Administration, Public Health or related field; supplemented by a minimum of two years of related professional experience in a health research setting. Training in epidemiological methods and grant writing strongly preferred.

Skills and Abilities

·         Experience organizing and coordinating research projects and/or grant based programs.

·         Demonstrated experience with scientific writing for manuscripts and grants.

·         Strong analytical and epidemiological skills

·         Experience preparing documents, reports, and communication materials for mass distribution.

·         Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate clearly and effectively in-person and by telephone; tact, diplomacy, and flexibility in dealing with community members, research staff and study investigators.

·         Strong knowledge and/or experience in HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, public health, health services, or related other fields.

·         Strong knowledge and/or experience working with administrative health data an asset

·         An understanding of and sensitivity to diversity issues, with a commitment to social inclusion.

·         Basic understanding of clinical and socio-structural aspects of HIV (i.e., HIV treatment and care, stigma and discrimination, community engagement) preferred.

·         Ability to work highly independently, with minimal supervision, and as part of a team.

·         A high degree of initiative and leadership.

·         Proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office software.

·         Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
