Research Assistant Opportunity
CLIC – Competency in Language – Integration to Content: A Pilot Project in French PDP
SFU’s Institute for the Study of Teaching and Learning in the Disciplines (ISTLD) invites applications for a research assistant appointment for the Teaching and Learning Development Grant project: CLIC – Competency in Language – Integration to Content: a pilot project in French PDP (French RA) to begin 15 October 2019. Research assistant will be responsible for:
- Analyzing and summarizing data, such as journal entry, survey and interview data;
- Assisting with data entry and evaluation; and
- Attending meetings with project leads/team.
What you bring:
- Excellent knowledge of and experience with qualitative data analysis;
- Demonstrated ability to select and implement meaningful analyses, including appropriate statistical treatment, and effectively communicate the work to a non-data-science audience;
- Academic-level research and French writing skills, as demonstrated by prior completion of similar projects;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong French oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to work independently, productively, and creatively;
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program at SFU (M.A., MEd, PhD or equivalent combination of skills and experiences). Preference will be given to a graduate degree in or related language education; and
- Experience teaching in a French program in the BC school system (Kindergarten-Grade 12) would clearly be an asset.
Experience and skills that would be an asset:
- Experience with additional language learners
Rate of pay: $31 to $35/hr (incl. vacation and statutory holiday pay, no medical or dental benefits) - based on experience, qualifications and degree program (MA or PhD).
The contract will be 3 to 5 hours per week from October 2019 to December 2019 for a maximum of 50 hrs; schedule to be negotiated with successful applicant. Additional hours may be available.
