Call for Papers: South Asia Conference of the Pacific Northwest (SACPAN)

March 16, 2026

Organizers across the University of British Columbia (UBC) and Simon Fraser University (SFU) invite paper abstracts for the annual South Asia Conference of the Pacific Northwest (SACPAN), a long-running collaborative venture sponsored by South Asia specialists at the University of Washington, the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, the University of Oregon, and other institutions in the region. We welcome scholars from across the social sciences and humanities disciplines with research interests in South Asia at universities and colleges in the Pacific Northwest.

If you are a graduate student / early career scholar working on research related to South Asia across all time periods and disciplinary approaches, we welcome your proposal. Students of colour, LGBTQ+ students, Indigenous students, students with disabilities, and students from other underrepresented populations are encouraged to apply.

You are required to submit abstracts of 150 words and bios of 100 words as part of your application. We welcome proposals on work in progress that would benefit from substantive feedback. Limited financial support for students from outside BC traveling to Vancouver for the conference may be available.
