Dr. Jasmine Nicholsfigueiredo

Dr. Jasmine Nicholsfigueiredo is the newly elected President of the Federation of Post-Secondary Educators of British Columbia (FPSE). An educator, union leader, and advocate for public post-secondary education, she has dedicated her career to advancing equity, inclusion, strong faculty governance, and fair working conditions across the sector.

Prior to her election as FPSE President, Dr. Nicholsfigueiredo served three terms as President of the Douglas College Faculty Association (DCFA). She has also served on the Douglas College Board and as the Chair of Education Council. Her extensive leadership experience includes participation on numerous committees and organizations, including the Canadian Labour Congress Human Rights and International Solidarity Committee, the FPSE Disability Management and Rehabilitation Committee, the DCFA Status of Women Committee, the Simon Fraser University Labour Steering Committee, the New Westminster & District Labour Council, and committees focused on community safety and artificial intelligence.

Dr. Nicholsfigueiredo teaches English at Douglas College and holds a PhD in Medieval and Renaissance Literature from Simon Fraser University. She also earned a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from Simon Fraser University, as well as a Master of Arts from Queen’s University. Her academic interests include Medieval and Renaissance literature, African literature, Urban Liveability and Community Development, experiential learning, and community-engaged education. Through her teaching, research, and leadership, she remains committed to strengthening public education and fostering more inclusive and vibrant communities.
