Welcome Kwesi Thomas

The SFU Philosophy Department is delighted to welcome Dr. Kwesi Thomas to our faculty this Fall!

 Dr. Thomas joins us from the University of Toronto where he completed his PhD. His research focuses on on social and moral philosophy within Black intellectual traditions, especially those in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

His dissertation,The Philosophical Formation of W. E. B. Du Bois, offered the first comprehensive account of Du Bois’s early engagement with figures and traditions in the broader history of philosophy. Articles drawn from this project have appeared in the British Journal for the History of Philosophy and the Archiv für Geschichte der Philosophie. 

He is currently writing a book tentatively entitled The Radicalization of W. E. B. Du Bois, and he is editing an historical anthology of Black thought in Canada.
