SFU Political Science welcomes new grad program assistant Flavio Medeiros
On April 1st, Flavio Medeiros began his new role at SFU as our department’s graduate program assistant. Previously, Flavio worked at SFU’s Vancouver campus in the registrar’s office and with Meeting, Events, and Conference Services. What he liked most about these former jobs was connecting with people. Now, he is happy to be meeting SFU’s political science grad students, if only virtually at the moment.
“I miss seeing the students in person, but it’s still good connecting with them,” Flavio says. “I’m definitely a people person. I love talking to people.”
Flavio also has an excellent and up-to-date understanding of what the university experience is like, as he is currently finishing his bachelor’s degree in communication and taking remote courses. He is planning on pursuing graduate studies too.
Originally from Brazil, Flavio has lived in London, England and Vancouver, Canada and has advice for international students who are coming to our city for the first time.
“Embrace the culture,” he says. “Be open and explore the city. Don’t be afraid if your first language isn’t English. Keep talking. It’s about communication. You need to understand and be understood.”
