Sam Seaward (Squamish Nation Elder, Artist, Master Wool Weaver, Writer, Cultural Educator, Lacrosse Coach, Red Seal Carpenter)

The event is organized by Xinying Hu, funded by the FASS Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training and Professional Development Grant, and co-sponsored by the Labour Studies Program. Students enrolled in the summer courses LBST100: Equality and Inequality at Work and LBST201: Workers in the Global Economy: Globalization, Labour and Uneven Development will be attending. Everyone is welcome!

SFU Indigenous Students, Faculty, and Staff: Join us for a celebratory day of connection, community, and collaboration grounded in Indigenous governance, wellness, and shared learning.

This gathering brings together Indigenous members of our SFU community to strengthen relationships over a shared meal and activities.

• Indigenous Governance Updates: sharing progress and next steps in our ongoing work

• Student Research Presentation: highlighting Indigenous research at SFU

• Plant Walk & Tea‑Blending Workshop: reconnecting with land‑based knowledge
• Bingo Social: optional, stay‑after activity for fun and connection

This gathering is open to all SFU Indigenous students, faculty, and staff across our campuses.

Why This Gathering Matters

The Indigenous Governance Circles are a core part of our university’s commitment to Truth & Reconciliation. They ensure SFU Indigenous community members and Host Nations are meaningfully involved in decision‑making and the ongoing implementation of SFU’s Aboriginal Reconciliation Council (ARC) and Pathways recommendations, responding to the TRC’s calls to action and enacting SFU’s obligations under the B.C. DRIPA Action Plan. Your presence strengthens this work.
