Information for Instructors: Getting Started without Canvas
CEE is here to support instructors during the Canvas Cloud disruption.
First week priorities (May 11–15)
Instructors are not expected to have full course delivery in place immediately. For the first week, CEE recommends:
Download your course content from Canvas. If you need access support, submit a ServiceHub ticket.
Send students what they need to get started via email using a course distribution list—this could include your syllabus or library article links.
Schedule a Zoom Q&A session to address student questions and reduce individual emails.
Instructions on how to download your course materials and set up email distribution lists are available on the Canvas Cloud Restrictions: FAQ. Note: You must be logged into VPN or on an SFU device to access the Campus Connections site.
Recommended tools
Email is your most reliable channel this week. SFU IT is expediting Teams for courses with secure student-only access—expected within one to two weeks. More information will be shared when available.
Support for online courses
Instructors of online courses with enrolment over 100 will be contacted directly by a CEE learning and teaching development member. If you have not been contacted, reach out to the educational developer you have worked with previosuly or email ceehelp@sfu.ca.
