International Admission Requirements

Admission to Graduate Certificate or Diploma

Minimum Equivalent Qualifications

For admission to a Graduate Certificate or Diploma the requirement is a degree equivalent to a Simon Fraser University 4-year bachelor’s degree with a minimum overall grade equivalent to a B-.

Admission to Master's Program

Minimum Equivalent Qualifications

For admission to a master’s program, the qualifications listed are normally recognized as equivalent to a Simon Fraser University 4-year bachelor’s degree with minimum overall grade requirements.

Most SFU graduate programs will assess a Bologna compliant degree as equivalent to a 4-year degree.

Pre-university education is at least 12 years of study

Bologna Note:

  • The Czech Republic joined Bologna process in 1999.
  • Since 2001 most universities (i.e. Masaryk University) started to offer three cycle degree system:
    • First cycle (Bakalar) – 3-4 years
    • Second cycle (Magistr) – 1-3 years
    • Third cycle (Doktor) – 3-4 years
  • Since 2006 the diploma supplement has been issued together with a diploma.
  • Most public higher education institutions are currently using ECTS or an ECTS compatible credit system. Private institutions have been slower in adopting ECTS.
  • Old degrees (2-3 year Magistr) are no longer offered
