$2 million in new funding from CIHR supports health research at SFU Science

Simon Fraser University (SFU) Faculty of Science researchers have received $2 million in funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) through the Spring 2026 Project Grant competition.

The Project Grant program funds research in all areas of health with the greatest potential to generate new fundamental or applied knowledge to advance health care, health systems, and/or health outcomes.

Projects funded include:

  • $1.07 million to study the Impacts of TSC2 loss on Early Neural Development
    Principal Investigator: Lisa Julian, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry with co-applicant Tom Claydon, Biomedical Physiology and Biochemistry
  • $960,000 to study the role of MYORG in primary brain calcification
    Principal Investigator: David Vocadlo, Chemistry and Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, with co-applicant Lisa Julian, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry
