Message from the Dean

In my first weeks as Dean at FHS, I’ve had the privilege of speaking with students, faculty and staff and have heard how eager this community is to engage, learn, and do more together. This positive start to my term as Dean can be attributed the tremdous leadership of Dean pro tem Dr. Jeremy Snyder and the incredible staff who advanced FHS through this leadership transition.

Looking at the Faculty’s accomplishments in 2025, there is much to be proud of. Our amazing students have grown academically and personally, finding value and meaning in their commitment to improving FHS’ programs for themselves and other students. Faculty and student researchers made discoveries that explored how robust public health practice and policy can result in good health outcomes for individuals and communities here in Vancouver and across the world. We facilitated 36 MPH practicums and 130 Co-op placements, and welcomed 350 new FHS alumni to our ranks.

The excellence of our faculty members was recognized in many ways: Drs. Zabrina Brumme and TJ Salway were honoured by their peers for their many contributions to public health and science, while the incredible research of Drs. Angela Kaida and Krista Stelkia were acknowledged with Canada Research Chair awards. Dr. Kelley Lee was tapped to authored two international reports on global health that highlight Canada’s critical roles during these times of rapid geopolitical change.

As your Dean, I invite you to come and speak to me about your interests, suggestions, and concerns. Book a time for Coffee with the Dean, or visit me at my office in Blusson Hall. I look forward to working with you to strengthen and shape our Health Sciences community.

Dean David Bangsberg
