A lot is happening during the Convocation ceremonies. Here, we've provided some tips, outlined places you'll want to check out after your ceremony, some quick links, and have provided ideas on places where you may want to take some photos on your special day.
Convocation quick tips
Arrive on time
- 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. for a morning ceremony
- 12:45 - 1:45 p.m. for an afternoon ceremony.
When you get to campus, go to the AQ 3000 Southeast corner (near Mackenzie Cafe)
Seriously, arrive on time, or even early. You need time to find parking, go through the process to cross the stage and for family/friends to find seating.
Prepare your guests
- Remind guests that seating is outdoors and to dress for the weather.
- Ensure they know that large bags are not permitted per SFU's bag policy.
- Send your guests to get their seats early as it is first come, first served. Yes, guest tickets are required to enter the Convocation Mall.
Don't forget
- Check the forecast and dress for the weather!
- Bring your SFU student I.D. or a government issued I.D. (driver’s license, passport); you'll need it to get your parchment!
- Before you send your guests to Convocation Mall, give them your bag, flowers, balloons, and other large items to hold onto during the ceremony.
Places to check out after your ceremony
Faculty celebrations
In addition to your convocation ceremony, you are invited to celebrate with your faculty or department at a pre or post ceremony Faculty Celebration Reception. Information will be posted below the overall Convocation schedule.
