Four SFU alumni named to the Order of British Columbia

August 04, 2026

The Order of B.C. is the province’s highest honour, recognizing individuals who have made exceptional contributions to British Columbia and beyond.

12 people who exemplify excellence will be invested into the Order of B.C. during a ceremony next month, including four SFU alumni.

  • Gail S. Anderson, PhD – for her foundational work establishing forensic entomology in Canada, transforming criminal investigations and advancing justice through innovative research and global leadership.
  • Elio Luongo – for his contributions to the province’s economy and communities through decades of business excellence, innovation and public service.
  • Vittorio Montagliani – for elevating the game of soccer from east Vancouver to the world stage, championing its unprecedented growth, and playing an instrumental role in bringing the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 and FIFA World Cup 2026 to communities throughout British Columbia and Canada.
  • Marianne Ignace (Gulḵiihlgad) – for advancing Indigenous language revitalization through years of research, education and community partnership.

Congratulations to these amazing alumni!
