Indigenous elementary students visit SIAT
On Thursday, May 25th, the School of Interactive Arts & Technology (SIAT) hosted Indigenous elementary students from the Surrey School District on a visit to the SFU Surrey campus.
The students were invited to campus to take part in a day-of-play at SIAT where they had the opportunity to explore a post-secondary environment while engaging in fun and interactive activities.
Below are some of our favourite photos from the day.
Throughout the morning, the students were given a tour of the SFU Surrey campus and took part in a series of interactive games and challenges. In the first activity of the day, Kai Hutchful led the students in the Marshmallow Challenge where students designed and built stable structures using marshmallows and dry spaghetti noodles.
While half of the students worked on their marshmallow structures, the other half played jeopardy with David.
In the afternoon, SIAT assistant professor Gillian Russell led the students in an activity called "Protest agaist an unwanted future." For the activity, students conceived of possible unwanted futures and created protest signs against those futures.
