A Vancouver City commissioned version of SCA's Jin-me Yoon's So Far So Near (2026) is on the big screens at Granville and Robson, presented as part of the city's Platforms: The Teachers Among Us program. More HERE.

SOLUM I SOIL (2026), created by the SCA's Rob Kitsos and SCA alumni Meagan Woods and Beau Han Bridge, is screening as part of the MANIFEST Dance-Film Festival, running July 29 – August 2, 2026, in Auroville, India. More HERE.
1984:AGAIN
Upcoming from Theatre Terrific: 1984:AGAIN by Kevin Jesuino, an SCA alumnus and Theatre Terrific's Artistic Director, running September 10 – 13 & 17 – 20, 2026, at the Picnic Pavilion on Granville Island (267 Old Bridge Walk). With Jesuino as Director and Playwright, and SCA alumnus Sara van Gaalen as Stage Manager, 1984:AGAIN is an adaptation of George Orwell's cautionary novel from 1949, "drawing terrifying parallels to modern day surveillance, disinformation and politics." It's already almost that time of year again! Single tickets are now on sale for Theatre Replacement's East Van Panto: Hercules, written by SCA alumnus Pedro Chamale (with Marcus Youssef), and with SCA alumnus Sophie Tang as Lighting Designer and Illustrations by SCA alumnus Cindy Mochizuki, running November 18, 2026, to January 3, 2027, at The Cultch's York Theatre (639 Commercial Dr, Vancouver,). Call for purple jingle dresses
SCA alumnus Virginia Jessica Sparvier-Wells shared a special invitation to "all jingle dress dancers to bring or make a purple jingle dress for our 2nd year special at Cowessess Powwow," which runs August 11 – 13, 2026, at the Cowessess First Nation in so-called Saskatchewan. Some changes in the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology...
As an unfortunate result of "ongoing transformations to the post-secondary sector and the publishing industry in Canada" – which is another way of saying ongoing global instability, financial and otherwise, and perhaps also the way-too-fast rise of AI – SFU Publishing is being folded into SFU's School of Communication. This means that the Master of Publishing is being closed, as well. Read more HERE.
Gachet's drop-in community art workshops
Gallery Gachet, which has SCA alumnus Olumoroti Soji-George as Director / Curator, is holding a season of free, drop-in community art workshops in Oppenheimer Park and Pigeon Park, led by artists and community facilitators, with all materials supplied and light refreshments provided. Participants are also invited to produce work for Gallery Gachet’s 17th Annual Oppenheimer Park Art Show. Reveal Yourself, featuring SCA alumnus Marita Michaelis and Justin Perdomo from Still Depths, had their rescheduled Deckchair Cinema show, opening for a screening of Best in Show (with SCA alumnus Hiro Kanagawa as the Pet Shop Owner!), once again canceled due to weather! One of these days, or so The Polygon promises, they'll get to rock the deck!

Secret Ingredients in Toronto
Hello Toronto! SCA alumnus Keely O’Brien's Secret Ingredients project is open for business, presented as part of the 2026 edition of Toronto's SummerWorks Performance Festival. Drawing from the submissions she receives, O’Brien will make a cake with a custom message, rendered in delicious icing, and deliver it to your chosen recipient – all for free! After all the cakes are delivered, O’Brien will present a "performance and cake tasting inspired by the cakes and the stories behind them" on Saturday, August 15, at 7:00 PM, and Sunday, August 16, at 3:00 PM, both in the BMO Incubator at The Theatre Centre (1115 Queen Street West, Toronto). Gamelan Trike Trike's workshops
Gamelan Trike Trike, a project of Publik Secrets (which has SCA PhD student George Rahi as one of its members), is calling for participants "interested in learning how to play gamelan music" to join their "free, hands-on workshop series beginning in September." More HERE.
