Citing the World with Raymond Boisjoly
The SCA's Raymond Boisjoly, who's also a 2026 Guggenheim fellowship recipient (yay!), is leading Citing the World: Points of Interreference, Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art's 2026 Fall Institute, running September 14 – 26, at Plug In ICA (460 Portage Ave #1, Winnipeg, MB). Here's how the theme is presented: "This program explores interreference by staging encounters between distinct bodies of knowledge that generate new forms of understanding. When a distinct practice frames an encounter with the material world, what is being cited is both the world itself and the work which provides access to it. Moving beyond questions of representation, it considers how art establishes correspondences between disparate histories, materials, concepts, disciplines, and traditions. Rather than asking what an artwork stands for, the program asks how it connects, translates, transforms, and reconfigures existing forms of knowledge." Sounds good! If you'd like to attend this "free, international artist research program for professional artists and cultural workers in all disciplines and media," the application deadline is July 31, 2026, at 5:00 PM (CDT). Gabriel Colome, who's part of SFU's media team (with Sam Smith and Hans Goksoyr) that produced a sweet video last term featuring now-SCA alumnus Sara van Gaalen, was announced as one of the "creators" in the 2026 Documentary Cohort in Vancouver International Film Festival's Institute for the Moving Image artist development initiative. Through the Wormhole Theatre Co.'s 2026 "Summer Getaway Series" includes SCA alumnus Lachlan Harris-Fiesel's "Twelfth Night" (with SCA alumni Sarah Carter, Katie Gherasim, Jae Gonzales, Lauren Han, Carlo Marchet, Rosemary Morrison, and TJ Tan as part of the creative team and production) running July 25 in the "Skiers Plaza" at Whistler Village, and Paper Trails, running August 8 – 15, as part of the Nanaimo Fringe Festival. In other news, Through the Wormhole Theatre Co. is also calling "anti-, pseudo-, and regular intellectuals" to join Thinking For Ourselves, an "AI-free symposium on anything and everything" on August 1, 2026. SCA alumnus Sarah U 余衍晴 is calling for musicians to work on Us Beneath the Currents, "a dance installation performance project with set pieces and a real-time motion-to-visual system built in TouchDesigner," inspired by her "memories of growing up in Macau, China—an island city where flooding was a recurring part of life."
